- Title
-
- Coat with button-accented front panel of faille silk.
- Description
-
- Drawing includes small sketch of back of garment. This is a very abbreviated drawing, lacking an arm and legs below the knees. Note the flirtatious look of the model, achieved with just a few pen lines!
- Written on image: "Faille silk down front of coat." "Designed by Pearl Alexander" "ANDRE' 570 - 7th Ave. New York City Feb. 17, 1941"
- "Faille" is a flat-surfaced fabric with a ribbed texture. Note how the artist has shown it here with closely-spaced parallel lines to distinguish it from the smooth surfaces of the rest of the coat. The faille panel is a sort of "plastron", or bib attached with buttons. Eight of the nine buttons are probably decorative, with the center one possibly being functional, and the rest of the front being closed with hidden hook-and-eye fastenings. The vertical pairs of buttons may indicate pockets (note the slightly darker shading at the edges here).
