- Title
-
- Fitted coat with puffed leaf shapes lining the front gores.
- Description
-
- Printed on image: "André Fashions" "Gores are emphasized with puffing in the shape of tiny leaks (sic)." "dersigned by Pearl Alexander" "ANDRE' 570 - 7th Avenue[,] New York City[.] Feb. 10, 1941"
- "Gores" are inserts of fabric used to make a garment fuller or give a desired shape. Here they lie behind the panels running down the front of the coat. "Puffing" involves cutting the cloth of an outer layer so that the fabric in the layer under it can be seen. Sometimes the underlying fabric is pulled through the holes for more dramatic effect.
- In the typed caption, "leaks" is almost certainly a typo for "leaves". Note how the word has been crossed out in pencil.
- Image includes small sketch of back of garment.
