- Fitted knee-length coat with military details.
- Description
-
- "Epaulets" (also "epaulettes") are the shoulder pads of a high-ranking officer's uniform, usually with a fringe of braid at their outer ends. The ones on this coat are soft and stylized with rolled-up ends. The "military cord", (officially called an "aguilette"), shows that its wearer is part of a general or admiral's staff. Note, too, the patriotic eagle motif on the hat and belt buckle.
- Includes sketch of back view of garment. Large pockets at the hips give a look which suggests a short jacket worn with a skirt.
- "The United States was not yet fighting in World War II when this coat was designed, but news from overseas and military preparations at home were on many Americans' minds."
- Printed on image: "Collar and epaulets in one. Military cord slips through under epaulet." "Designed by Pearl Alexander" "ANDRE' 570 - 7th Ave. New York City[.] Feb. 3, 1941"
