Description
This coat was made so that its wearer could fold back its front flaps to expose its lining ("revers") and mimic the broad, contrasting-colored lapels of a tuxedo. The small tucks ("shirring") at the shoulders are matched by the detailing on the model's purse.
Unlike most drawings in this series, this one has a small sketch of the side of the garment. The large hairpins (knitting needles?) stuck through the turban as decoration are a striking and interesting touch.
Printed on image: "Fitted coat. Entire front may be rolled over in tuxedo effect. Note soft shoulder treatment." "Designed by Pearl Alexander" "André 570 - 7th Avenue New York City Dec. 23, 1940"
